CtrlOne · Tact

Privacy Policy

Tact turns your iPhone into a control deck for your own Mac. It is designed to work directly between your devices, without an advertising profile or a Tact cloud account.

Effective 4 August 2026

The short version: CtrlOne does not sell your personal information, track you across apps or websites, or use your activity for advertising.

1. Scope

This policy explains how CtrlOne (“we”, “us”) handles information when you use the Tact iPhone app, the Tact Mac companion, and related support services.

2. Information stored on your devices

Tact stores the information needed to remember and operate your setup, such as app preferences, decks and controls, device names and identifiers, remembered connections, and pairing information. This information stays on your devices unless you choose to send, export, or synchronize it through a feature you initiate.

Sensitive credentials, including pairing secrets and optional third-party API keys, are stored using Apple platform security such as Keychain where supported. Tact does not intentionally send these credentials to CtrlOne.

3. Local network and device discovery

Tact uses your local network and Bonjour device discovery to find and connect to the Tact Mac companion. Once paired, your iPhone and Mac exchange connection status, deck configuration, commands, and the feedback needed to display live controls. This communication is used to operate your own devices and is not used for advertising or tracking.

If you choose remote connectivity, traffic may travel through the network or private networking service you configure, such as Tailscale. That provider's privacy terms apply to its service.

4. Camera and biometrics

5. Clipboard, selected text, files, and commands

Some controls can access clipboard items, selected text, files, app state, system statistics, or commands on your Mac. Tact processes this content only when required for the control you use. It is exchanged directly with your paired Mac and is not collected by CtrlOne.

6. Optional AI Actions

If you configure an AI Action, the content you choose to process is sent from the Mac companion to the AI provider and model you selected, using the credentials you provide. CtrlOne does not receive that content or API key. Your chosen provider's privacy policy and retention terms apply. Do not use AI Actions with sensitive content unless your provider and configuration are appropriate for it.

7. Data we collect

The current Tact app does not require an account and does not send personal data, usage analytics, advertising identifiers, or diagnostics to CtrlOne. If you contact support, we receive the information you voluntarily include in your message and use it only to respond and maintain support records.

8. Sharing and sale

We do not sell personal information. We do not share Tact usage data with advertisers or data brokers. Information is disclosed only when you direct a feature to a third-party service, when needed to answer your support request, or when required by law.

9. Retention and deletion

Tact settings and pairing records remain on your devices until you remove a remembered device, reset the relevant settings, or delete the app. You can remove companion data from your Mac. Support correspondence is retained only as reasonably needed to resolve the request and meet legal obligations.

10. Security

Tact uses device pairing, platform security features, and encrypted transport where supported to protect communication. You should pair only with Macs you trust, keep your devices updated, and remove devices you no longer use. No system can guarantee absolute security.

11. Children

Tact is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12. Changes

We may update this policy as Tact changes or legal requirements evolve. We will revise the effective date when material changes are made.

13. Contact
